Privacy Policy

Overview

SearchEd is a directory of Pennsylvania and North Carolina and Delaware and New Jersey and Maryland and Virginiapublic school teaching jobs. Browsing the directory does not require an account and does not collect any personal information that identifies you - see "Site analytics" below for the anonymous, aggregate traffic data we do collect from every visit. This policy covers what happens if you choose to create an account as a teacher, and what happens if your organization subscribes to our paid hiring-alert product for staffing firms. Each section below says which of those two it covers.

What we collect

For teachers

If you create an account, we collect:

• Your email address, used to sign in and to send job-alert emails you opt into.
• Your password, if you sign up with email/password. We never see or store it in plain text - it is handled entirely by our authentication provider, Supabase, using standard salted hashing.
• If you sign in with Google, the name and email address Google shares with us as part of that sign-in.
• Any filters you choose to save (county, district, category, and similar search preferences) and whether you've opted into alerts for them.

For business subscribers

If your organization subscribes to our paid hiring-alert product, we collect the billing contact information our payment processor, Stripe, gives us: name, email address, company name, and subscription status. Card payments are handled directly by Stripe - SearchEd never sees or stores your card number. We also collect the states and disciplines you ask us to cover, which we use only to tailor your weekly hiring-alert email.

Teacher account data (email, password, saved filters, alert preferences) is never used to build or included in the paid hiring-alert product, and no teacher personal information is ever sold to or shared with a business subscriber. The paid product is built only from public job-posting and school-district data. We do not sell or rent any personal information to anyone. We do not ourselves track you across other websites; if third-party advertising is shown on SearchEd, the ad provider may set its own cookies for that purpose, as described under "Advertising" below.

How we use it

For teachers

• To let you sign in and manage your saved filters.
• To send you the job-alert emails you've opted into, and nothing else.
• To keep the service running securely - for example, detecting abuse of the sign-up flow.

For business subscribers

• To send the weekly paid hiring-alert email, tailored to the states and disciplines you asked us to cover.
• To handle billing and give you support.

Who we share it with

We use a small number of infrastructure providers to run SearchEd. Each acts only as a data processor on our behalf, under their own privacy and security commitments - none of them get to use your data for their own purposes:

• Supabase - hosts our database and handles authentication for teacher accounts (including Google sign-in).
• Resend - delivers job-alert emails to teachers and, if a business subscribes, the paid hiring-alert emails to that subscriber, on our behalf.
• Stripe - processes subscription payments and billing contact information for business subscribers to our paid hiring-alert product. We never receive or store your card number. Stripe never receives teacher account data.
• Google - only if a teacher chooses to sign in with Google, to verify their identity.
• Vercel - hosts SearchEd and provides the anonymous, cookieless site analytics described above.

We do not share your data with any other third party, and we never sell it.

We may also disclose information if required to do so by law, subpoena, or other legal process, or to comply with a valid request from law enforcement or a government regulator.

Site analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics to understand how many people visit SearchEd and which pages they use. It is cookieless - it identifies a visit using a one-way hash of the request that is discarded after 24 hours, not a cookie or any other persistent identifier - and records only aggregate, anonymous data: the page viewed, the referring site, rough geolocation (country/region/city), and device/browser type. This data cannot be used to identify you or reconstruct your browsing across other sites, and we cannot connect it to your account even if you're signed in. It runs on every visit, including anonymous browsing.

Cookies

If you have an account, we use a session cookie to keep you signed in. Our site analytics (above) don't use cookies at all. If third-party advertising is shown on SearchEd, the ad provider sets its own advertising cookies - see "Advertising" below.

Advertising

SearchEd may show third-party advertising to support the free service. When it does, ads are served by Google, and:

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to SearchEd and other websites.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to SearchEd and/or other sites on the internet.
• You can opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings. You can also opt out of a third party's use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info/choices.

These advertising cookies are set and read by Google, not by SearchEd, and we do not receive or store the data they collect. If SearchEd is not currently showing ads, none of these advertising cookies are set.

Security

We take reasonable steps to protect your account information, but no system is perfectly secure. We cannot guarantee against unauthorized access, and no method of transmission over the internet is completely secure.

Your controls

For teachers

You can review your account email and delete your account at any time from Account settings. Deleting your account permanently removes your profile and saved filters. Every alert email includes a one-click unsubscribe link.

For business subscribers

You can review, update, or cancel your subscription and billing details at any time through the Stripe customer portal. SearchEd provides you the portal link directly.

Children's privacy

SearchEd is intended for adults seeking teaching employment and is not directed at children.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a meaningful way, we'll update the date at the top of this page.
