EMPLOYMENT VACANCY OFFICE OF THE SUPERINTENDENT 2026-2027 SCHOOL YEAR Psychologist or School Social Worker The above tenure track position is available for the 2026-2027 school year starting immediately. Description: Fair Haven Public Schools is seeking a highly skilled, compassionate, and student-centered School Psychologist or School Social Worker to join our district's student support team. This position offers a unique opportunity for a professional who is passionate about working directly with students, supporting their social-emotional and behavioral development, and collaborating with educators to create positive, supportive learning environments. While this individual will serve as a member of the District's Child Study Team (CST), the position is designed to emphasize direct student services and intervention rather than traditional CST case management responsibilities. The successful candidate will maintain a very limited case management caseload, allowing for a primary focus on proactive student support, counseling, behavioral interventions, and collaboration with school staff. Key Responsibilities Provide individual and small-group counseling and targeted social-emotional and behavioral interventions to students. Serve as an accessible, responsive resource for students and staff, providing timely support to address students' behavioral, emotional, and social needs throughout the school day. Work collaboratively with teachers, administrators, families, and CST members to identify students in need of additional support and develop appropriate intervention strategies. Partner closely with the District's Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) to support the implementation, monitoring, and reinforcement of individualized behavioral intervention plans and strategies. Provide hands-on coaching, modeling, and professional support to teachers and paraprofessionals to promote consistent and effective implementation of interventions. Assist students in developing emotional regulation, coping, problem-solving, self-management, and positive interpersonal skills. Provide proactive support and early intervention to help students overcome challenges before they become barriers to learning. Participate in problem-solving and student support meetings, contributing expertise in behavioral and social-emotional development. Help foster a positive school climate in which all students feel supported, connected, and equipped to succeed academically, socially, and emotionally. Qualifications Valid New Jersey School Psychologist or School Social Worker certification. Experience providing direct counseling, behavioral interventions, and social-emotional support to school-aged children. Strong understanding of positive behavioral interventions, social-emotional learning, and evidence-based student support practices. Ability to collaborate effectively with teachers, paraprofessionals, administrators, families, and multidisciplinary support teams. Experience implementing behavior intervention plans and working collaboratively with a BCBA is strongly preferred. Strong interpersonal, communication, and problem-solving skills. A proactive, flexible, and student-centered approach to supporting the diverse needs of learners. Ideal Candidate The ideal candidate is a relationship-driven professional who enjoys being actively engaged in the daily life of a school community. We are seeking someone who is comfortable working directly with students, responding to emerging needs, partnering with educators in classrooms, and helping translate intervention plans into meaningful, effective practices. This is an opportunity to make a direct and immediate impact on students' daily school experiences while working as part of a collaborative and supportive educational team.
