POSITION: Interim- Physical Education Teacher 1/4/2027-3/31/2027 QUALIFICATIONS: See attached job description LOCATION: Union Valley Elementary School EFFECTIVE: January 4, 2027 SALARY: $220/day + $ 25.00 for additional days 21+ John Bilodeau Superintendent GLOUCESTER TOWNSHIP PUBLIC SCHOOLS JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Physical Education Teacher QUALIFICATIONS: Holds or is eligible for a N.J. Instructional Certificate in Health and Physical Education. REPORTS TO: Principal JOB GOAL: To develop in each pupil an understanding of the relationship of good body function and exercise; to motivate each pupil to cultivate physical fitness, hygienic habits, and good social and emotional adjustment; to discover and develop talents of pupils in physical achievement; to develop strength, skill, agility, poise and coordination in individual, dual, and team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each pupil’s ability. PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES: Teacher’s knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing the course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Works cooperatively with other physical education teachers in planning a balanced physical education program. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movements. Provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil, to the extent feasible. May teach Physical Education classes for handicapped pupils, interscholastic athletics, or drill team to senior high pupils. Provides appropriate safety instruction and makes safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure the overall safety of pupils. Maintains control of storage and use of school-owned property. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior needed to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education area. Evaluates each pupil’s growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports. Maintains professional competence through in-service education provided by the district, and/or in self-selected professional growth activities. Participates cooperatively with the principal or his designee to develop the method by which he will be evaluated in conformance with district guidelines. Selects and requisitions uniforms, equipment, and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health, attitude, and learning problems. Cooperates with school administration in providing specialty performing groups for special occasions, PTA meetings, assemblies, and interscholastic athletic events. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned working day. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs. Participates in faculty committees and the sponsorship of student activities. COMPENSATION: $220/day + $ 25.00 for additional days 21+ TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: 10-month year VACATION: There is no vacation time allotted to this position. EVALUATION: Performance of the job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the provisions of the Board’s policy on Evaluation of Professional Personnel.
