Position Details

TITLE: Hybrid Speech-Language Pathologist QUALIFICATIONS: Must have a master’s degree in Speech-Language Pathology. A Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association is preferred. Must have a G License from the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction. May have a license from the North Carolina Board of Examiners for Speech-Language Pathologists and Audiologists. REPORTS TO: School-based employees report to the principal or principals of their assigned schools. Central Service employees report to the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist. Both report to the Program Administrator of Exceptional Children and the Executive Director of Exceptional Children. JOB GOAL: Assists students with special communicative needs in reaching their maximum communicative potential based on age and cognition. Areas of speech-language involvement include deficits or abnormalities in articulation, language, voice, and fluency. The employee coordinates services with the student’s educational staff and family and is responsible for Medicaid billing documentation for all eligible students. This position follows a hybrid work schedule, combining in-person responsibilities with designated telework time. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Organizes the school program, cooperates with others to accomplish its goals, coordinates program services with other student services, and maintains records in accordance with established rules, regulations, and ethical standards. Maintains Medicaid billing profiles and therapy notes for all Medicaid-eligible students using the district’s designated billing service. Conducts screening and testing, obtains and analyzes diagnostic information, and makes recommendations regarding programs and services. May supervise speech-language assistants and clinical fellows working toward certification from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association (ASHA). Develops an individualized education program (IEP) for each eligible child in collaboration with the classroom teacher, parent, local educational agency (LEA) representative, and other pertinent professionals. Plans therapy and uses appropriate diagnostic tools and therapy techniques to support the curriculum. Manages time, facilities, and resources to facilitate service delivery. Promotes effective interpersonal relationships and engages in continuing professional growth. Provides consultation, seeks assistance from others, uses related research, and makes recommendations and referrals to support the implementation of services. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES FOR TELEWORK Works remotely one day per week, on Wednesdays, to conduct virtual IEP meetings, complete EZEDMED documentation, and prepare for SPOT team groups. Coordinates directly with assigned schools to ensure consistent, in-person, hands-on support and guidance. Remains available to attend high-profile or challenging IEP meetings in person and to provide treatment when these services must be scheduled on Wednesdays. Maintains a comprehensive work log of activities completed on assigned remote days and submits the log to the Lead Speech-Language Pathologist (Lead SLP) weekly. Shares calendar access and phone contact information with the Lead SLP. Remains accessible by phone and email during work hours and actively logged on to the CCS network on remote days. Adheres to all district communication and responsiveness standards while working remotely. Attendance at the employee’s regularly assigned workplace for on-site meetings, conferences, training sessions, and other school business activities may be required on scheduled remote days. Transportation for this attendance is the employee’s responsibility. Adheres to the same policies and procedures established for all school system employees. Performance is monitored and assessed in the same manner as that of employees working at their regularly assigned workplace. Maintains the work schedule expected at the regularly assigned workplace, including working hours and lunch breaks, unless a supervisor specifically authorizes a change. Physical Requirements Must be able to exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, up to 5 pounds of force frequently, or a negligible amount of force constantly to move objects. Physical demand requirements exceed those for sedentary work. Light work usually requires walking or standing to a significant degree. When the use of arm or leg controls requires exertion of forces greater than those for sedentary work, the job is rated as light work even if the employee sits most of the time.
