PUBLIC SAFETY BUILDING 60 NELSON PLACE, 1 NORTH � NEWARK, NEW JERSEY 07102 TEACHER OF CHEMISTRY PAYNE TECH The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking a Long Term Teacher of Chemistry at Payne Tech for the 2026-27 school year. Position Purpose Under the School Principal's supervision, the Chemistry Teacher fosters a comprehensive understanding of chemical concepts and principles. They engage students through dynamic and interactive lessons, laboratory investigations, and scientific inquiry while promoting critical thinking, problem-solving skills, and the application of chemistry to real-world situations and current scientific developments. Qualifications: • Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment • Strong interpersonal and communication skills • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status • Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law Performance Responsibilities: • Instructs students in chemistry concepts, including matter and its properties, atomic structure, the periodic table, chemical bonding, chemical reactions, stoichiometry, solutions, acids and bases, and related topics. • Develops and delivers engaging lessons that incorporate laboratory investigations, real-world applications, and current scientific research. • Plans and conducts laboratory activities that reinforce chemical concepts and provide students with opportunities to apply scientific methods and principles. • Promotes safe laboratory practices and ensures that students follow established safety procedures when handling laboratory equipment, materials, and chemicals. • Designs and administers assessments to measure student understanding and progress and uses assessment results to inform instruction. • Adapts instructional strategies and provides individual or small-group support to address diverse student learning needs, including the needs of students with special needs. • Integrates technology and appropriate instructional resources into the chemistry curriculum. • Guides students in applying chemistry concepts to health, environmental science, engineering, manufacturing, and other scientific and technical fields. • Maintains accurate records of student attendance, performance, and progress. • Collaborates with colleagues in the development and implementation of instructional programs and remains current with educational practices and developments in the field of chemistry. • Maintains familiarity with district and NJ State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting instruction to maximize student achievement in chemistry. Additional Duties Performs other related tasks assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent. Terms of Employment This is a long-term replacement position during the 26-27 year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association. Compensation 2025-2026 contractual rate ******************************************** The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees.
