Position Details

Position Summary The Part-Time Teacher of the Hearing Impaired provides specialized instruction and support to students with hearing impairments. This role focuses on improving students' access to the general education curriculum, developing communication skills, and supporting academic achievement in collaboration with school staff and families. Key Responsibilities Provide direct and/or consultative services to students with hearing impairments in accordance with Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) Adapt instructional materials and teaching strategies to meet students' auditory and communication needs Support the development of listening, speech, language, and social skills Collaborate with general education teachers, speech-language pathologists, and other service providers Monitor and maintain assistive listening devices (e.g., hearing aids, FM/DM systems) Conduct ongoing assessments and track student progress toward IEP goals Participate in IEP meetings and contribute to evaluation and eligibility processes Provide training and support to staff on hearing loss, accommodations, and equipment use Communicate regularly with families regarding student progress and needs Qualifications Bachelor's or Master's degree in Deaf Education, Hearing Impairment, or related field Valid state teaching license with endorsement in Hearing Impairment/Deaf Education Knowledge of hearing loss, auditory development, and communication modalities (e.g., oral, total communication, sign language) Experience working with school-aged children with hearing impairments preferred Strong collaboration and communication skills Work Conditions Part-time schedule (hours/days to be determined based on student needs) May serve multiple school locations within the division Requires travel between sites (if applicable) Physical Requirements Ability to communicate effectively through spoken language, sign language, or both Ability to lift and carry instructional materials and equipment as needed Position open until filled.
