POSITION: Physical Education Teacher � Leave Replacement LOCATION: Lazar Middle School REPORTS TO: Building Principal / Superintendent of Schools POSITION DATES: Approximately November 30, 2026 � February 26, 2027 JOB SUMMARY: The Montville Township Public School District is seeking a qualified educator to serve as a Physical Education Teacher � Leave Replacement for the period of approximately November 30, 2026 through February 26, 2027. The successful candidate will provide instruction and supervision for students in physical education and will be responsible for planning and delivering standards-based instruction, assessing student learning, maintaining a positive and supportive learning environment, communicating with families and staff as appropriate, and carrying out other professional responsibilities associated with the assigned teaching position. The successful candidate will work collaboratively with building administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families to support student learning, physical development, and overall student well-being. QUALIFICATIONS: Valid New Jersey instructional certification appropriate for the assignment, including a New Jersey Physical Education endorsement (1630) or Health and Physical Education endorsement (1605), or another New Jersey instructional certificate/endorsement determined by the District and New Jersey Department of Education to be appropriate for the assignment. Demonstrated knowledge of physical education curriculum, instructional practices, classroom management, assessment, and student development. Ability to plan and deliver effective, standards-based physical education instruction. Ability to establish and maintain a positive, inclusive, and supportive learning environment. Ability to work collaboratively with administrators, teachers, support staff, students, and families. Strong communication, organizational, and interpersonal skills. Prior physical education teaching experience preferred. Required criminal history background check pursuant to N.J.S.A. 18A:6-7.1 and any other employment requirements applicable to New Jersey public school employees, including required medical/TB documentation pursuant to applicable law and regulation. New Jersey requires covered public-school employees, including teaching staff members, to complete the required criminal history record check process. CERTIFICATION NOTE: Candidates must hold the appropriate New Jersey instructional certification for the duties of the position. The New Jersey Physical Education endorsement (1630) authorizes the holder to teach physical education in New Jersey public schools. The Health and Physical Education endorsement (1605) authorizes the holder to teach both health and physical education. A New Jersey Substitute Credential alone does not satisfy the certification requirement for this extended physical education teaching assignment, except where otherwise specifically authorized by New Jersey law and NJDOE requirements. COMPENSATION & BENEFITS: Salary: BA Step 1 � $60,702 annually, prorated for the actual period of assignment, in accordance with the Montville Township Education Association (MTEA) negotiated salary guide and applicable District payroll procedures. Benefits: Eligible employees may receive health, prescription, dental, vision, retirement/pension, and applicable leave benefits in accordance with the MTEA collective bargaining agreement, District policy, and applicable law. Eligibility, waiting periods, and the extent of benefits are subject to the terms applicable to leave replacement employees. No additional compensation programs are anticipated for this position unless otherwise provided by the applicable collective bargaining agreement or District policy.
