Position Details

Position Title: Middle School STEAM Teacher Reports To: School Principal Position Purpose Under the general supervision of the School Principal, the STEAM Teacher provides exemplary instructional leadership to facilitate student growth in academic, analytical, and interpersonal skills. This role is responsible for delivering hands-on, inquiry-based elective courses for grades 6�8 utilizing the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) curriculum�specifically App Creator, Design and Modeling, and Medical Detectives. Additionally, this position leads and facilitates the Gifted and Talented program for students in grades 4 and 5, designing enriched, higher-order learning experiences tailored to advanced learners. Curriculum & STEAM Instruction (Grades 6�8) Facilitates district-approved middle school STEAM elective courses with high fidelity, emphasizing interdisciplinary connection across Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. Implements and teaches core Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Gateway modules: Design and Modeling: Guiding students through the engineering design process, spatial modeling, and 3D design software. App Creator: Introducing fundamental computer science, algorithms, and mobile app design to solve real-world problems. Medical Detectives: Engaging students in biomedical exploration, disease investigation, genetics, and vital sign analysis. Promotes a collaborative, hands-on classroom environment conducive to design thinking, prototyping, project-based learning, and small-group problem-solving. Gifted & Talented Program Facilitation (Grades 4�5) Coordinates, plans, and delivers specialized enrichment and acceleration instruction for 4th and 5th-grade Gifted and Talented students. Differentiates learning experiences to challenge advanced learners and cultivate critical thinking, creativity, research skills, and independent inquiry. Monitors, documents, and communicates G&T student progress to classroom teachers, administration, and parents. Classroom Management, Assessment & Student Support Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and adapts instructional methods to fit individual needs, including students with IEPs, 504 plans, and English language learners. Establishes clear standards of behavior and maintains a safe, supportive, and well-managed learning environment that encourages risk-taking and innovation. Instructs students in digital citizenship, safety procedures, and principles of responsible school citizenship in accordance with Gloucester City School District policies. Professional Collaboration & Administrative Duties Coordinates with middle school and elementary professional staff to evaluate curriculum, align cross-curricular standards, and participate in faculty or grade-level meetings. Selects, requisitions, and maintains inventory for instructional aids, technology tools, lab supplies, and engineering kits. Organizes and maintains accurate, complete records for attendance, grading, and student achievement as required by district policies and state regulations. Supervises students during non-instructional times throughout the school day as assigned, including hallway, lunch, or transportation duty. Pursues continuous professional development in STEAM trends, PLTW updates, and gifted education methodologies through workshops, seminars, and training. Certifications: Teacher of Middle School Science (1103) Elementary School Teacher in Grades K-6 (1001) Experience: Prior successful teaching experience in middle school science, computer science, engineering, or gifted education preferred. Demonstrated experience with project-based learning, educational technology, or the PLTW framework is strongly preferred. Salary GCEA Salary Guide
