Supervisor of Special Education

The Bensalem Township School District, located in Lower Bucks County, has a Supervisor of Special Education vacancy responsible for providing supervision of special education programs and services for students at the Elementary and Secondary levels within the district, Intermediate Unit Programs, and various off-site placements. This position serves as a key liaison, facilitating communication and coordination between school administration and all certified professional and paraprofessional staff. As a member of the Bensalem Township School District administrative team, the Supervisor leads efforts to support a sense of belonging and inclusivity for all members of the school community. Essential Duties and Responsibilities:Directs program development and evaluation in the area of special education and special services, as designated by the Assistant to the Superintendent for Special Services. Coordinates the placement of children identified as requiring special education programs/services. 3. Formulates staff development programs for special education and regular education staff. Coordinates reevaluation of children in special education programs. Participates in the recruitment, interviewing, selection, deployment and evaluation of professional staff related to the special education and special services areas. Supervises development, implementation and evaluation of individual educational programs for exceptional children. Ensures district compliance with state and federal standards and regulations relating to the operation of special education programs. Maintains a cooperative relationship with building principals to develop, maintain and deliver appropriate services in their buildings. Maintains programs coordination with district curriculum supervisors. Coordinates the review, development and implementation of Special Education Curriculum, as needed. Perform Other duties as assigned by district leadership. Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: The successful candidate must have a minimum of five (5) years of satisfactory specialeducation teaching experience, as well as experience as a Supervisor of Special Education.Posses in-depth knowledge ofspecial education requirements and Chapter 14 and 16 mandates; possess excellent organizational skills. Effective collaboration and communication skills to work with principals, teachers, parents, and regional/state/national colleagues. Valid PA certification as a supervisor of Special Edication is preferred Demonstrated positive and effective leadership and supervisory abilities Physical Demands This position requires sitting, standing, and moving frequently. The supervisor must also use the computer for extended periods. It involves performing a variety of duties and working under varying levels of stress. Evaluation Performance will be evaluated annually per the district’s policies and procedures. Salary: Tier IV Act 93 Agreement.
