Technology and Public Information Coordinator Position Title: Technology and Public Information Coordinator Department: Technology & Communications Location: Clinton City Schools District Offices / Auxiliary Services Reports To: Superintendent (or Designee) Position Summary Clinton City Schools is seeking an innovative, resourceful, and collaborative Technology and Public Information Coordinator to manage and support district technology operations while directing internal and external communications. This dual-role position leads district public relations, website maintenance, social media engagement, media relations, and brand identity, while also overseeing instructional and administrative technology support, infrastructure coordination, and digital safety. Essential Duties and Responsibilities Communications & Public Information Public Relations & Media Management: Draft and distribute press releases, coordinate media interviews, and serve as the district's primary point of contact for news outlets. Digital Communication Channels: Oversee and maintain the Clinton City Schools website, district mobile app, and official social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, X/Twitter, YouTube). Crisis Communication: Assist leadership in crafting and deploying timely emergency messaging and notifications via automated call/SMS/email systems (e.g., inclement weather, safety alerts). Publications & Media Production: Design and publish district newsletters, brochures, annual reports, promotional materials, and event photography/videography. Technology & Digital Infrastructure Technology Support & Coordination: Assist with the deployment, maintenance, and troubleshooting of hardware (Chromebooks, laptops, interactive displays, printers) and software across school sites. Network & System Administration: Collaborate with technical staff and external vendors to support network reliability, wireless connectivity, student information systems, and Google Workspace for Education. Data Privacy & Cybersecurity: Ensure compliance with student privacy laws (FERPA, COPPA, CIPA) and educate staff and students on cybersecurity awareness and digital citizenship. Instructional Technology Integration: Partner with educators to support the integration of digital tools, learning management systems, and emerging technologies into classroom instruction. Required and Recommended Qualifications 1. Education & Experience Requirements Required Education: Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Information Technology, Computer Science, Educational Technology, or a closely related field. Required Experience: Minimum of 3–5 years of professional experience in public relations, communications, IT management, or educational technology integration. Prior experience working within a public school system (K-12) or public-sector organization is strongly preferred. 2. Required & Recommended Certifications Valid Driver's License: Valid North Carolina Driver's License with an acceptable driving record (Required). Licensure: North Carolina Department of Public Instruction O77 Licensure (Preferred) Google Certified Educator / Administrator: Google Certified Educator (Level 1/2) or Google Workspace Certified Administrator (Desirable). CompTIA Certifications: CompTIA A+, Network+, or Security+ certifications (Desirable). Certified School Public Relations Specialist (SPRA): Certification from NSPRA or state school public relations association (Desirable). 3. Essential Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Category Key Knowledge & Skill Set Technical Proficiency Strong technical knowledge of macOS, Windows, ChromeOS, iOS, cloud computing (Google Workspace, Microsoft), device management (MDM), and basic networking concepts. Communications & Graphic Design Exceptional writing, editing, and public speaking skills. Expertise with design and media editing tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, etc.) Web & Social Media Management Proficiency in content management systems, website accessibility standards (ADA / WCAG 2.1 compliance), and social media analytics. Regulatory & Legal Knowledge Comprehensive understanding of FERPA, COPPA, CIPA, copyright laws, and public records laws applicable to North Carolina public schools. Project Management & Soft Skills Strong organization, ability to multitask under tight media deadlines, creative problem-solving, and professional customer service orientation. Physical Demands & Working Conditions Regular computer and digital device usage for prolonged periods. Must be able to lift and move technology hardware and media equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. Ability to travel across district campuses and attend evening school board meetings, community events, and crisis response situations as needed.
