Position Title: Health and Physical Education Teacher Position Location: Position Type: WPEA Bargaining Unit – 10 months Supervisor: Building Principal or designee Last Updated: September 23, 2026 Position Summary: The ideal candidate will support the District's mission and vision and will have primary responsibility for planning and delivering developmentally appropriate lessons that meet state-mandated standards. The Health and Physical Education Teacher is responsible for creating a classroom environment that fosters, promotes, and develops an understanding of the relationship of healthy body function and exercise; that motivates each student to cultivate physical fitness, and appropriate social and emotional adjustment; that discovers and develops talents of students in physical achievement; and that develops strength, skill, agility, poise, and coordination in individual, dual, nd team physical activities and sports, in accordance with each student's ability. Key Responsibilities & Essential Duties Teaches knowledge and skills in physical fitness, health education, rhythms and dance, and individual, dual, or team sports, utilizing curriculum designated by the Pennsylvania Department of Education and other appropriate learning activities. Works cooperatively with other teachers to plan and implement a balanced physical education program. Analyzes, demonstrates, and explains basic skills, knowledge, and strategies of formal sports, games, rhythms, and fundamentals of body movement. Develops lesson plans and supplementary materials compatible with the William Penn School District's instructional philosophy; provides individualized and small-group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student and subgroups of students. Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive environment in the physical education areas. Provides appropriate safety instruction and conducts safety checks on equipment and field areas to ensure students' overall safety. Evaluates academic and social growth of students, prepares report cards, and keeps appropriate records to include attendance reports, checklists, and other recordkeeping activities as necessary. Maintains control of school property and its use. Evaluates each student's growth in physical skills, knowledge, and contribution in team sports. Communicates with parents and school counselors on student progress. Supervises students in classroom activities during the assigned working day. Administers testing in accordance with division testing practices. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Knowledge/awareness of own cultural identity and how this influences behavior, and desire to learn about the cultural identity of others. Ability to establish and nurture an environment that promotes cultural competence and equitable treatment of District staff, students, and patrons. Ability to recognize that each person is a unique individual even as we celebrate their group cultural heritage. Knowledge of PA Core Standards and Eligible Content Knowledge of Learning Management Systems (LMS) including, but not limited to, Schoology and Canvas Knowledge of Instructional Planning Guides as it relates to the instructional block Knowledge of Digital Curriculum components Courageously lead conversations focused on equity, closing opportunity gaps, and equal access to rigorous, technology-infused lessons. Establish and maintain effective working relationships with District staff and administrators, students, parents or guardians, outside agencies, and the public, in a multi-ethnic, multicultural, multilingual environment. Receive and implement feedback to improve practice and systems.
