POSITION: Principal LOCATION: Woodbridge Early Childhood Education Center REPORTS TO: Assistant Superintendent START DATE: TBD CLOSING DATE: October 7, 2026 JOB SUMMARY: The Principal provides instructional, operational, and administrative leadership for an early childhood education center serving students in Pre-K through Grade 2, as well as an employee daycare program. The Principal is responsible for creating a safe, nurturing, and inclusive school environment that supports the academic, social-emotional, and developmental needs of young children. The Principal works collaboratively with teachers, support staff, families, district administrators, and community partners to support student growth and school improvement. The position provides leadership for curriculum and instruction, staff development and evaluation, student services, school climate, family engagement, safety, budgeting, scheduling, and the effective operation of the school and its programs. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: Must hold or be eligible for Principal/Assistant Principal certification in the State of Delaware Master's degree in Educational Leadership, Administration, or related field required. Minimum of 3–5 years of successful administrative or leadership experience required. Five (5) years of administrative experience preferred. Knowledge of early childhood and primary-grade instructional practices, child development, and developmentally appropriate learning environments. Experience using student data and assessment information to monitor progress and support instructional decision-making. Demonstrated ability to lead, supervise, evaluate, and support faculty and staff. Knowledge of state and federal requirements related to education, special education, student safety, and early childhood programs. Experience collaborating with families and supporting positive school-family relationships. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple school programs, priorities, and responsibilities. Ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with students, staff, families, district personnel, and community members. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide instructional leadership for Pre-K through Grade 2, promoting developmentally appropriate instruction and high expectations for all students. Lead school improvement efforts and oversee the implementation of district curriculum, instructional programs, and assessment practices. Monitor student progress and use data to support instructional decisions, interventions, and differentiated learning. Support teacher collaboration, professional development, instructional innovation, and effective classroom practices. Foster a safe, nurturing, inclusive, and developmentally appropriate learning environment. Establish consistent and age-appropriate expectations for student behavior and support students' social-emotional development. Ensure appropriate services and supports are provided to meet the academic, developmental, and individual needs of students. Hire, supervise, mentor, and evaluate faculty and staff. Establish clear expectations for staff performance and provide ongoing feedback, support, and professional development. Build a collaborative school culture focused on student growth and staff success. Maintain regular and effective communication with families regarding student learning, school programs, and school expectations. Develop positive partnerships with families, community organizations, and early childhood partners to support students and families. Oversee the daily operation of the school, including Pre-K, K–2, and employee daycare programs. Develop and manage the master schedule, school budget, resources, and staffing to effectively support school programs. Coordinate with district departments, including transportation, facilities, custodial, nutrition, and student services, to address the operational needs of the school. Ensure compliance with district policies and applicable state and federal requirements. Maintain a safe school environment and oversee emergency preparedness, student supervision, arrival and dismissal procedures, and other school safety practices. Ensure required health, safety, licensing, and regulatory requirements are followed for applicable school programs. Other duties as assigned. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of all required background checks and clearances. Compensation for the Principal role will be based on the candidate's educational background, professional qualifications, and prior administrative experience, in alignment with district salary guidelines. Application Link: Click Here WORKING CONDITIONS AND EXPECTATIONS: This is a 12-month position based on a full-year administrative contract. The Principal is expected to work a minimum of 7.5 hours per day, consistent with district expectations for administrative staff, with additional time as necessary to effectively fulfill the responsibilities of the position. Duties will extend beyond the traditional workday and include evening and weekend commitments related to district events, meetings, professional development, and student services activities. The Principal is expected to maintain consistent and reliable attendance, demonstrate strong leadership and professionalism, and effectively manage a broad range of student services and district operations. Responsibilities continue throughout the summer months and include planning and preparation for the upcoming school year, oversight of student services programs and initiatives, staff supervision, compliance activities, and other administrative duties as assigned.
