Special Education Consultant/Coach

Position Title: Special Education Consultant/Coach Location: All Buildings Tulpehocken Area School District is seeking an experienced and collaborative Special Education Consultant/Coach to join our team. This position will provide focused, expert coaching and consultation to strengthen student supports, increase staff capacity, improve family communication, and reinforce high-quality special education programming across the District. THE ROLE The Special Education Consultant/Coach will work directly with students, staff, families, and administrators to provide:Student Support – Consult with teams supporting students with intensive behavioral, emotional, or instructional needs and help develop effective interventions, behavior supports, and transition plans. IEP & Family Support – Participate in complex IEP meetings, serve as an LEA representative when appropriate, strengthen family communication, and help teams proactively address concerns. Teacher & Staff Coaching – Provide modeling, co-planning, observation, feedback, and job-embedded coaching for special education teachers and paraeducators. IEP Development & Compliance – Coach staff in developing clear, measurable, and defensible IEPs and support high-quality documentation, progress monitoring, and implementation. District-Level Support – Review special education practices and documents, identify trends and areas of need, and help create greater consistency across buildings. Professional Learning – Provide targeted professional development based on student needs, staff requests, data, observations, and recurring areas of need. The position is designed as a coaching and consulting role—not another layer of supervision or evaluation. Its purpose is to build staff capacity, solve problems collaboratively, provide earlier support for complex cases, and strengthen consistency across the District. Benefits are per the 5-year CBA (Collective Bargaining Agreement) effective July 1, 2024 to June 30, 2029 Bachelor’s Step 1 minimum salary is $60,568. QUALIFICATIONS Pennsylvania Special Education certification required. Successful special education teaching experience and strong knowledge of IEP development, specially designed instruction, behavioral supports, progress monitoring, and special education compliance are essential. Advanced degree, special education leadership/coaching experience.
