Guest Teacher Program: October 20 & 21st

The Hempfield Area School District is hosting their guest teacher program October 20& 21st from 9am-12pm at West Hempfield Middle School. Great schools need great teachers. As a guest substitute teacher, you will gain valuable experience and have a positive impact on kids. Guest Teacher The Guest Teacher program provides substitute teacher training to individuals who have a bachelor’s degree, but do not have, or have never held a Pennsylvania teaching certificate. Guest Teachers will leave the program with a PDE emergency permit (Type 06), valid through July 30th of the current school year, allowing them to serve as a day-to-day substitute in All Instructional Areas PK-12 within HASD schools. They will need to reapply for an emergency certification each year of the program. However, if a single assignment exceeds 20 consecutive days, the school district will need to request an emergency permit for a long-term substitute (Type 04). Emergency permits must be renewed annually and are available through the HASD. However, you must have substituted within HASD for at least one day in the prior school year to renew your PDE emergency permit. Note: Individuals who have a current, inactive, or lapsed Pennsylvania teaching certificate are not eligible to participate in the Guest Teacher program. Qualifications To qualify as a guest teacher, participants must hold at least a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university and be able to work in a PA public school (see PDE Form 6004 for list of exclusions). Participants must be present and complete both days of training in order to obtain an emergency permit. Checklist of Requirements Please submit the following information to the HR office prior to your scheduled training: A completed PA Standard Teacher Application (the written essay must be completed). Your resume. Your official, sealed bachelor’s transcript (this means sealed by the university with an official seal and presented to the CAIU unopened). In order to be considered for the program, you must obtain and submit the following three clearance RESULTS. PA Criminal Background Check Child Abuse Clearance Federal Fingerprint - (Use service code 1KG6S7 These clearances must be dated within 60 months A completed PDE Form 6004 Arrest and Conviction Form. A completed Health Record Form (standard physical) and a TB TEST which cannot be more than 90 days old. The Health Record Form, including immunization records, must be completed in its entirety. As for the TB test, if your physician asks, the “simple” TB test is all that is required. (we recommend HOLDING on this until a confirmed date of training is received) These six items need to be on file with the HR office prior to the scheduled training date. During the training, the HR office will provide all other documents (payroll and HR related) needing to be completed, reviewed and on file prior to your start date. Guest Teachers Participants Must: Have a desire to make a positive impact on students Successfully complete a two day training offered by the district Complete All required documents Approval: Applicants MUST be approved by the Pennsylvania Department of Education prior to actively substituting in the district.
