CTE Teacher (Technology Based)
JOB DESCRIPTION Middle School Exploratory Course Teacher Position Code: Department: Polk County Middle School FLSA: Exempt Reports to: Principal Supervises: N/A Job Summary: To provide high quality, active learning experiences for PCMS students in a safe, caring, and respectful environment by implementing the essential functions listed below. Essential Functions: 1. Plan developmentally appropriate lessons and learning activities that address the North Carolina Standard Course of Study (NCSCS). Appropriate planning includes: · Developing a yearly plan/pacing chart aligned to the NCSCS. · Designing unit plans and lesson plans that support the yearly plan. · Differentiating instructional plans for at-risk and for academically talented students. · Planning for appropriate materials use, field trips, and other special learning events that support and enhance instructional goals. · Preparing clear lesson plans and instructions for substitutes. 2. Deliver well-organized, well-connected, smoothly flowing lessons that require active student participation and that students understand. 3. Effectively manage student behavior. · Develop, teach, and implement a classroom management/student behavior plan. · Create a respect-for-all environment in the classroom and throughout the school. · Monitor student behavior throughout the school day: classroom, class changes, and other times as needed. · Administer consistent, appropriate interventions for student misbehavior. · Maintain student and teacher dignity at all times. · Realize that student behavior issues are additional opportunities to teach a child. 4. Analyze test data and other diagnostic information and use this information in planning. 5. Use assessment as an integral element in instruction. Check student work and provide feedback in a timely manner. 6. Be knowledgeable of and use current technologies in planning, communications, and in instruction. 7. Work cooperatively with all staff members and consistently maintain a professional attitude. 8. Make parent contacts an important element in the overall learning experience. 9. Maintain accurate records and submit reports and other information in a timely manner. 10. Perform all assigned non-instructional duties. 11. Understand and comply with laws and policies. 12. Develop a plan for professional growth that is aligned to school improvement goals and personal professional growth goals. 13. Actively participate in school and county staff development activities. 14. Develop and maintain a teacher portfolio that contains evidence/artifacts relating to job performance. 15. Maintain high performance expectations for all students. 16. Demonstrate a sincerely caring attitude toward students. 17. Demonstrate an understanding that flexibility is a key element in the successful operation of a school. Other Functions: 1. Other duties as assigned by the principal. Education, Experience, and Skills Required: 1. Have or be eligible for NC licensure in middle school subject area of assignment 2. Previous experience with middle school students preferred Terms of Employment: 10 months – Teacher Salary Scale Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of Board of Education policy, North Carolina statutes, and goals established by the Principal. Environmental Factors: This position requires light to moderate lifting, walking, and standing for extended periods of time. This position also requires handling of paints, clay, and other art supplies.
