ADJUNCT TEACHER, MUSICAL THEATER - MUSIC Job Description POSITION TITLE Adjunct Teacher, Musical Theater - Music The Adjunct Teacher, Musical Theater - Music is directly supervised by the CAPA Principal and is responsible for teaching several levels of music theory, as well as providing musical direction and piano accompaniment for several annual musical projects. The ideal candidate is an experience music director, teacher, and accompanist. Required skills include a strong ability to play a variety of music styles as well as an effective pedagogy for music theory for students ranging in grades 9-12. The position will be 21 hours a week (12:10 – 3:10 PM, M-F) and does not include health care benefits. WORK MONTHS 10 Months ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS · Prepare and teach stimulating classes in music theory to students aged 13-18 · Prepare the vocals for 2-3 annual student productions working as part of a production team alongside the director and choreographer · Nurture each student to maximize their potential as musical theater artists · Utilize differentiated instruction to assess and support all students according to their accommodations and learning styles · Ensuring a culture of rigor and discipline in the classroom · Practice a sensitive handling of students’ emotional needs, giving constructive criticism, encouragement and confidence · Create a welcoming, healthy and safe learning environment for all students to grow and learn by setting class-based rules and boundaries that are centered on mutual respect and understanding of our core values · Maintain discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school Regularly communicate with students, parents and other CAPA theater faculty to share artistic progress, encourage positive behavior, and resolve behavioral and artistic issues. · Maintain student attendance records EDUCATION REQUIRED Bachelor’s degree in Music, related field or comparable experience CERTIFICATION/LICENSURE REQUIRED Pennsylvania Department of Education Permit for Resource Specialists, required after offer For more information on Pennsylvania (PA) Department of Education Certification Requirements visit the a href="https://www.education.pa.gov/Educators/Certification/PAEducators/Pages/PACerts.aspx">PA Department of Education’s Certification Types and Codes webpage. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIES · Practicing musical director and accompanist with proven performance history · Teaching experience with diverse audiences – high school, studio, and /or community settings · Excellent oral and written communication skills · Collaborative and creative team player · Collaborative work with community arts organizations · Proficiency in notation software a plus WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The working conditions and physical requirements described here are representative of, but not limited to, those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position.
